the u café is an Underscore initiative bringing together independent cafés and magazines for good coffee and great reads.
For the ﬁrst ever overseas launch, the u café collaborated with Streamer Coffee Company and previous latte art world champion Hiroshi Sawada's cafés in the heartbeat of Tokyo's Harajuku, Omotesando and Shibuya. Over a period of two weeks, café goers will be able to enjoy Hiroshi Sawada's perfected roast and latte art performance ritual, along with the u café signature drinks while they browse freely through more than 30 international and domestic magazines.
the u café held the ﬁrst ever inaugural pop-up installation at Singapore's latest national monument, the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, in conjunction with The Gift of Time exhibition by Hermès. Besides being enchanted by the open-to-public exhibition by Hermès, more than 10,000 visitors were treated to an experiential setup of dining booths crafted to resemble train carriages, with a specialty gastronomical menu of traditional and new age delights served by the good folk of The Plain. the u café magazine library was ﬁlled with more than 50 local and international magazines free for all visitors to lounge and browse over ten enchanting days.
For its inaugural launch, the u café collaborated with 8 selected independent cafés to showcase a selection of over 30 international award-winning magazines. Over a duration of a intended period of 3 months, café goers were able to browse freely through the magazine library, while they enjoyed specially created signature snacks and drinks to complete the reading experience. Due to the overwhelming response, the u café was extended an additional 3 months.
